Traditional cantorial melodies for the high holidays are mixed with a variety of congregational tunes. In addition, on the first morning of Rosh Hashanah and for Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur morning, there is a completely lay-led service in the Samuel and Minnie Hyman Ballroom where the same liturgy is used, but with a strong emphasis on communal singing and participation, including sermons and brief “teachable moments” given by congregants. A meditation service will also be offered. During Neilah services at the conclusion of Yom Kippur, all participants are offered the opportunity to pass in front of the Ark, alone or with family, for a few private moments of personal prayer.
