Genetic Screening

Did you know that 1 in 5 Jews* is a carrier for Jewish Genetic Disease? Have you been tested?

Knowledge is power. Educate Yourself. Get Tested.

Hillel is offering FREE Genetic Screenings to Jews in Pittsburgh between the ages of 18-29 on Monday, November 14th from
12-8pm at the Hillel JUC.

Why get tested?

20% of *Ashkenazi Jews are carriers for a Jewish Genetic Disease. Being a carrier means that you have the recessive gene that you could potentially pass on to a child one day. If you have a spouse that also has a recessive gene, then your offspring have a higher chance of contracting a disease that could potentially be fatal or life threatening.

Getting tested gives you:
a. The knowledge if you are a carrier.
b. The counseling to make decisions based on your results in the future. It also helps you become aware of your own genetic history so you can encourage others to get tested.

This type of test usually costs thousands of dollars (insurance doesn't usually cover it), but through a generous grant, we are offering it FOR FREE.

To register for your easy 20-minute screening, sign up at www.victorcenter.org/screenings and select Pittsburgh Victor Center Partnership Screening - 11/14/11.
