The First Shabbat of the Year
This coming Friday night, August 28, 2009, will be the first combined Shabbat
gathering of students this year with freshmen and upperclassmen from both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. Students from
other area colleges and universities are expected to join us as well.
We are pleased to have found an underwriter for this first Shabbat dinner, the Hyman Family
Foundation, enabling us to provide this week's meal free of charge. Hereafter, students will pay a portion of the cost of the meal, six
dollars, with the rest being subsidized through contributions to the Hillel JUC. Students will be able to pay by check, in cash, Plaid Cash or
Panther Funds upon arrival, just before Shabbat. Three concurrent student-led services, Reform, Conservative and Orthodox, begin at 6:30, and
students will join together for kiddush, hamotzi and dinner at the conclusion of services.
