Shalom Chaverim,
Thanks to everyone involved with our awesome Pink Shabbat festivities. Not only was the room incredibly pink (including the cous cous and challah!) but we raised hundreds of dollars for Shasheret, an organization that provides resources and connections to young Jewish women with breast cancer. Jen Kurtzman and Liz Steele did an amazing job organizing the week's festiviities and it only proves that the Spring Sisterhood Vintage Fashion Show and Boutique (also benefiting Shasheret) will be a can't miss event!
Continuing with our Tikkun Olam theme, don't forget to join us for (Red) Shabbat, dedicated to rasing awareness for AIDS research and resources, both globally and domestically. In spite of what many believe, AIDS remains a terrible societal epidemic. This week is highlighted by our events related to sex and sexuality, especially Scott Fried's lecture on Thursday night. Scott is a phenominal AIDS and Jewish educator who has lectured all over the country!
Our Jewish tradition teaches us not only to perform the mitzvah of bikur cholim, to visit the sick, but also stand up and act when we see injustices in the world. Thanks to everyone who has already pitched in in support of our causes and taken a stand!
There's a lot more work to be done.
L'Shalom,
Les Skolnik
