  • Speedsitting - Get PAID as You Babysit in Your Community
    In response to strong demand by parents and students following November's successful babysitting event, The Hillel JUC is bringing together Jewish students and local parents to find ideal babysitting matches. This January's Speedsitting event will be on Wednesday, January 24, 6-7:30pm @ the Hillel JUC, and an application (due by Jan. 22) is available by contacting Sahar.

    Hebrew School / Judaics / Community Employment
    A local Jewish family seeks a student to intern on a regular basis as a teacher's aide one-on-one with a young student in the classroom at a private school in Squirrel Hill. Ideally, this aide is studying toward a degree in education, speech and language or occupational therapy. For more info contact Dana.

    A Reform synagogue in the North Hills seeks a teacher for a 9th grade class on "a basic review of key teachings of Judaism," Sunday mornings, from 9:15am or 10am. Also, the synagogue seeks a song-leader for its monthly "Tot Shabbat;" dinner and salary included. For more info contact Art.

    Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 10 & 11 The hottest Jewish A Cappella group in Pittsburgh, The VoKols, will hold its spring semester auditions on both days from 8-10pm @ the Hillel JUC. If you're interested, you should prepare a popular song to sing a cappella.
    If your semester doesn't begin until a week later, no worries; just contact The VoKols to secure another date or ask any questions you may have. Good luck!

    Shabbat 1000

    On Friday, February 9, more than 1,000 Jewish students and faculty members throughout Pittsburgh's universities and colleges will come together for a very special Shabbat dinner at CMU's University Center Gym. Will you be one of them?

    Inspired by last year's phenomenal Shabbat 1000 dinner, which drew over 750 people, this year we're aiming to break the 1,000 attendee mark! Help us and take pride in your community by inviting friends to join you for this AMAZING night! The Hillel JUC, Chabad House on Campus, and the Jewish Heritage Program are co-sponsoring Shabbat 1000. The free delicious dinner will be served @ 5:30pm, with Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox services beginning approximately one hour earlier.

    Beyond the Campus

    Fundfest 2007: Help Give Hope Answer the Call. Serve the Community. Volunteer at Fundfest.
    Fundfest, now in its 13th year, is the United Jewish Federation’s single largest fund-raising event, bringing together more than 300 volunteers who reach out to thousands of Pittsburghers. Fundfest will raise funds for the 2007 Annual Community Campaign, which supports vital human services in Pittsburgh, Israel and around the world.

    Internships & Scholarships

    JEVS Internship - Summer 2007 JEVS (Jewish Employment and Vocational Service) awards a limited number of stipends to Jewish university students who expect to reside in the Delaware Valley in June-August 2007. Interns visit a variety of organizations within the Jewish communal service system. For more info and to apply ASAP, contact Peggy Truitt.

    Need-based Scholarships for 2007-08 The Central Scholarship and Loan Referral Service (CSLRS) of the United Jewish Federation (UJF) of Greater Pittsburgh offers need-based grants to Jewish students (undergrad and grad) who have been residents of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, or Westmoreland Counties for at least two years.
