    Ba'al Koreh needed @ Adat Shalom
    Adat Shalom, a Conservative synagogue in suburban Pittsburgh, seeks a ba'al koreh who can read on Shabbat mornings using the Triennial Cycle (i.e., approx. 1/3 of the regular Torah portion). For more info contact Yaier.

    Come join the Hillel JUC for a hilarious night of comedy with the Late Night Players. These four nice Jewish boys met at Brandeis University, and since graduation, they have written and performed brilliant skits, musical numbers, slide shows, and dance offs around the US. Don't miss this FREE night of laughter, brought to you by Sisterhood and Brotherhood! 7pm @ Pitt's Graduate School of Public Health auditorium (room G-23). For more info contact Jackie.

    Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 13 and 14 Pitt Hillel Student Board elections are here! At 8:45pm on Monday, come hear speeches by candidates for President and Vice President and ask them any questions @ the Hillel JUC. Then vote! Voting will continue through 10pm Tuesday only @ the Hillel JUC. Voting for other offices will take place after Thanksgiving. For more info contact Jackie.

    Tuesday, Nov. 14 Panthers for Israel invite you to the screening of this month’s iMovie, the acclaimed Israeli film Ushpizin. The film is a revelatory and humorous look at the daily lives of ultra-Orthodox Jews learning, living, and loving in modern-day Israel. 8pm in Cathedral of Learning room G-24.     Friday, Nov. 17 Join students from CMU, Pitt, and Virginia Tech @ the Hillel JUC for a Birthright Israel Reunion Shabbat and FYSH (First Year Students of Hillel) Stay-n-Play. Whether you have been on a Birthright Israel trip in recent years or are looking to go this spring, come catch up with friends and share stories about your Israeli adventures. After dinner, stay-n-play a variety of fun board games, and feel free to bring your favorites.

    Jewish Studies Program Events

    Monday, November 13 Annual Kristallnacht commemoration program, co-sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program and the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures.     Wednesday, November 15 "Heretical Clergy in the Early Enlightenment: The Jewish Case and Some Christian Parallels," a presentation by Professor Matt Goldish of Ohio State University. 4:30pm in 115 Mervis Hall. Light refreshments will follow the lecture, which is co-sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program, the Department of Religious Studies, and the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program.     Beyond the Campus

    Tuesday, Nov. 14 The Pittsburgh Jewish- Israel Film Festival and the Three Rivers Film Festival present Close to Home, a new Israeli film about two female Israel Defense Forces recruits who patrol the streets of Jerusalem. One wants to meet hot guys, while the other wants to be a stand-up soldier. This "odd couple" film stylishly explores Israeli-Palestinian relations and women's military service. 7:15pm @ Regent Square Theatre, tickets are $7.

    Now through Dec. 30 The Framery proudly presents "Pure Faith," the latest collection by Israeli ethnographical photographer Harel Stanton. Don't miss this stunning visual exploration of faith around the world. Check out Harel Stanton's website. The Framery is located at 4731 Butler Street in Lawrenceville.

    Internships & Scholarships

    Cool Space Locator seeks an intern ($10/hour) November 2006-May 2007 to take the lead in helping staff plan and organize Cool Space Awards 2007. Cool Space Locator is a non-profit organization committed to helping small business owners and non-profit leaders make wise real estate choices. For more info and to apply, contact Robyn Barber.

    JEVS Internship - Summer 2007 JEVS (Jewish Employment and Vocational Service) awards a limited number of stipends to Jewish university students who expect to reside in the Delaware Valley in June-August 2007. Interns visit a variety of organizations within the Jewish communal service system. For more info and to apply ASAP, contact Peggy Truitt.

    Need-based Scholarships for 2007-08 The Central Scholarship and Loan Referral Service (CSLRS) of the United Jewish Federation (UJF) of Greater Pittsburgh offers need-based grants to Jewish students (undergrad and grad) who have been residents of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, or Westmoreland Counties for at least two years. Applications will be available in November, with an application deadline of February 6, 2007.
