Networking Opportunities: get connected, stay connected

Student Highlight of the Month
Our student highlight of the month is... Panthers and Tartans for Israel. While Israel may be thousands of miles from Pittsburgh, these groups bring Israel to campus! This month, their Israel week included an Israeli Shabbat with local teens, an Israel advocacy training day, Israeli films, speakers, and partnerships with iconnect, the Pittsburgh United Jewish Federation Israel branch. These students have truly brought a taste of Israel to campus and deserve a yishar koach, well done!

Alumni Event Review

  • October was a month of incredible mitzvahs! Our 2-day blood drive brought in over 50 blood donors, while our weekend of Israel advocacy training taught students, high school students, and community members about the work of many Israeli human rights organizations.

The annual trip to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum had a new twist - over 40 students were joined by survivor Fritz Ottenheimer for a truly meaningful day of Holocaust education and memorial. Also that week, an interfaith program co-sponsored by the Hillel JUC and the Lutheran Student Fellowship brought awareness to over 50 students about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a young German theologian who offered one of the first clear voices of resistance to Hitler.

And the ultimate mitzvah of the month... Students connected with community members for "speedsitting," helping local parents find babysitters! If you are local and missed out, email Sahar Oz for details!

  • And the mitzvahs continue this month...

Jewish Genetic disease screening, a $2000 procedure, will be available for all students for FREE on December 4th! If you would like to support the students in this effort, contact Laura Conrad. The Sisterhood group also continues to explore issues of women's health and identity with its "Of Mind and Body" series, as the Brotherhood group learns more new recipes in "Jewish Cooking for Men."

As the men cook, the Jewish education group will bring the spirituality of Hanukkah to the forefront as part of its 3-level Jewish learning initiative. With programs for the very beginners all the way to the Torah scholar, students hope to make Jewish learning accessible to all.

  • Networking Opportunities: get connected, stay connected
  • Social and professional networking opportunities for Jewish alumni and students! The Hillel JUC will be launching a new website this fall that will include a networking section for alumni and current students. Check out the Pitt Career Network or the CMU Alumni Career Advisor Network to see where your fellow alumni are and don't forget to include "Hillel" in your profile to connect with Jewish students!
