Student Highlight of the Month
Our student highlight of the month is... the Hillel
JUC FYSH
group (First Year Students of Hillel). This group
is the
forefront of welcoming students to campus- something
that
has changed and developed tremendously over the past
few
years. FYSH welcomed freshmen to campus and in just a
few short weeks had over 200 freshmen at
the CMU "Jewfest 2006," 150 freshmen at the "Things You
Didn't Learn in HS" Shabbat, and over 250 freshmen at
the Pitt Activities Fair. Yashir koach on a job well done to the
FYSH leaders!
Greek Round-Up!
Were you in AEPi,
AEPhi, ZBT, SDT, APhiO, DPhiE, or
another
strongly Jewish fraternity or sorority? Want to reconnect
with fellow Jewish Greeks? The Hillel JUC is building an
Alumni
Council-
email Laura
for
more details on how YOU can be involved and connect with
current Greek life!
L'Chaim!

incredible
growth
in the Jewish University Center Joseph Stern building.
"To Life" Toast: a donation of $72, to represent $18
for each of
your 4 years in school, will help send a student to a national
leadership conference.
"Chai" Toast: a donation of $180 will sponsor a Hillel
JUC
Jewish education program.
"Full Chai" Toast: a donation of $360 will sponsor a
day of Holocaust Memorial Week programming.
"Chai Society" Toast: a donation of $1800 will allow
students
to bring in a major Israeli speaker, to give Israel a voice on
campus.

Student Program Review

This New Year came in with a bang at the Hillel JUC! With
packed free Shabbat dinners, Rosh Hashanah celebrations,
student led High Holiday services, and a influx of
excited freshmen, there is a constant focus on leadership
development,
Jewish education, social programming, and Israel
advocacy
here at the Hillel JUC.
With the addition of "The VoKols," a new Jewish A
Capella
group at the Hillel JUC, Jewish students have the opportunity to
highlight their favorite pop and Hebrew songs, and will be
highlighted at many future events.

Student Program Preview

The month of October is packed with educational and
exciting programming. Students will have
the opportunity to attend the Pittsburgh Opera and get a taste
of the city's cultural offerings. Panthers for Israel, the Pitt
Israel advocacy group, is bringing an
American-Israeli Journalist to speak while later in the month,
the Sisterhood group will
present a program about cancer awareness as part of the
ongoing "Of Mind & Body Series."
As we all get into the Fall spirit, Hillel will go
apple picking at a local apple farm and come home to bake
kosher apple pies!
Next semester, students will hold a city wide Jewish
Genetic Disease screening. Throughout the fall, they
will be holding fundraisers to raise money
for
future screenings and programs dealing with this topic. If
you
would like to support the students in this effort, contact Laura Conrad.
