Alla Fabrikant

Alla Fabrikant (President) saw JSO as the missing piece at Duquesne and means of Jewish students connecting with their community while expanding their knowledge on the culture and religion. She really explored Jewish heritage through her birthright trip this past summer and urges others to do so. As a fourth year Pharmacy student, she aims to apply the degree to clinical applications with patient medications and disease management. When school breaks, Alla heads home to Cleveland to visit family and enjoy water scenes as much as possible, be it swimming or kayaking. She is also involved in Lambda. To relax she reads, watches 'The L Word' or 'Queer as Folk', or listens to Great Big Sea. She poses the question: Does the walker choose the path or the path the walker?

Michael Scheimer

Michael Scheimer (Vice President) is a junior music performance major, that will conduct professionally some day.  His classical heart embraces hummus, hockey, and who else but Woody Allen.  This native Pittsburgher is a natural traveler.  He spent the summer playing the French horn in the Netherlands; and after an amazing birthright trip, he cannot wait to push on, hopefully by returning to Israel.  Shabbat is at the top of Mike’s list of favorite Jewish traditions and he’s pretty excited about sharing it with other Jewish students through JSO.

Rachel Elman

Rachel Elman (Treasurer) is a junior in pharmacy, meaning goofing off is not an option. She is an active member of LKS and loves chocolate. A big football fan, this girl from Columbus, Ohio, is representing for the Bucks and OSU football! JSO was a way for Rachel to meet more Jewish people and to get involved.

Erica Feinberg

Erica Feinberg (Secretary) came from Voorhees, NJ (near Cherry Hill) to pursue Pharmacy as well. When this sophomore isn't working at CVS, or rowing at the crack of dawn for Duquesne Rowing, she enjoys Jewish food, such as lox and bagels, and hanging out with friends. Erica joined JSO to meet new Jewish people who would share her love of Passover.

Jessica Kowal

Jessica Kowal (Co-Public Relations) traveled south from Shelton/Bethany, Connecticut to study Music Technology in the Composition Track. Ethnomusicologist, Composer, or Sound Recording engineer are all possibilities on the horizon for this sophomore. She is involved in the Flute Choir and the Audio Engineer Society. Her participation in musical activities doesn't end there though. She continues her Ukrainian tradition through the Tamburitzans and practices other forms of dance as well such as ballet and belly dancing. Though not of a Jewish background, Jessica began accompanying her friends to JSO in learning about Jewish culture and tradition and now has a foothold in the group.

Ellie Gordan

Ellie Miriam Gordan (Co- Public Relations) is studying Advertising and Studio Art in the hopes of designing work at environmental and women's organizations. Her home is right around the corner in Squirrel Hill, every college student's ideal laundry situation. Besides music and art, Ellie enjoys Indie movies and Jewish food. She plans to take a birth right trip soon to continue meeting more Jewish people, as she has through JSO.
